Six-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 blocks traffic

COLUMBIA — A six-vehicle accident blocked traffic on Interstate 70 near Providence Road for almost an hour Wednesday morning.

Columbia firefighters, Columbia police and EMS units were dispatched to the accident at 7:18 a.m., according to a news release from the Fire Department.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were completely blocked, hindering fire crews’ access to the scene. Lanes reopened around 8:10 a.m., according to the news release.

A female driver from one of the vehicles was taken to Boone Hospital Center with minor injuries, according to the Fire Department.
