Police: Campus robbery didn’t happen

COLUMBIA — An MU student who reported that she was shoved and robbed outside of her car on the west side of a residence hall on Feb. 26 wasn’t a victim of either crime, according to police.

MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said after investigation, police found that the student was not shoved by a man outside of Stafford Hall and then chased and robbed. The student had said her purse was snatched.

“There is no possibility that those two things happened,” Weimer said. Weimer declined to name the student or give her age.

“Something happened, but it was not a crime.”

Weimer said no charges for making a false report have been filed against the student.
