COLUMBIA — John L. Patton was listed in critical condition at noon Sunday after he was injured while driving a scooter Saturday night.

At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department were called to a vehicle crash on the 2300 block of E. Gans Road. Records indicate Patton lives in that block of Gans road and works as a lawyer from his home.

A news release from the Sherrif’s Department said evidence at the scene indicated Patton crashed while attempting to avoid a deer. He was driving west on Gans in a 2003 Aprilia Scarabeo scooter.

Patton was taken to the University Hospital, and was still be treated there Sunday.
