COLUMBIA — The Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church has set up a memorial fund for former children’s choir director Melissa Robinson Guillotte to help supply the children’s choir with rhythm instruments.

Guillotte was choir director for two years before she died Dec. 1, 2007, at the age of 25.

“She was very talented, outgoing and good with kids,” said Ruth Thompson, the church’s financial secretary and a Chancel Choir member. “She helped with all the special programs.”

The donations will go toward purchasing drum and rhythm instruments, the cost of which has not been estimated.

“Some of the children are shy about singing,” Thompson said. “If they have instruments, they will be more involved.”

The campaign began Feb. 14 and was announced Sunday to the congregation.

“Although we have just started raising money, I already have about $100 coming in,” Thompson said.

Outside donations are also welcome and may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St., Columbia, MO 65201. For more information, call 442-1164.
