Rock Bridge runner signs letter of intent with Georgetown

COLUMBIA — Lauren Borduin, a senior track athlete for Rock Bridge, announced her intent to run at Georgetown University next year.

Borduin, who had narrowed her choices down to Georgetown, Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Missouri, had been quiet about which school she had chosen. But before announcing her choice Thursday to a small crowd of a about 100 students, teachers and family members at the school, she took advantage of the suspense. She placed four caps, one for each school, on a table where she sat with her parents and coach Neal Blackburn. When it came time to let the crowd know her plans, Bourduin unzipped her fleece jacket, revealing a Georgetown Hoyas T-shirt, and donned her Georgetown cap.

“When it really came down to it, it was who did I want to spend the next four to five years of my life with,” Borduin said. “Not to mention the academics are just incredible.”

In Borduin’s three years at Rock Bridge she has been a state track champion three times, twice in the 800 meters and once in the 1600 meters. She also holds several Rock Bridge records.

Bourduin will join a track program that has produced more than 30 event national champions and put athletes in 12 Olympic games.
