COLUMBIA — Police arrested a couple in connection with several robberies and thefts Wednesday after the theft of a wallet at Gerbes on West Broadway.
A store employee identified Darrin N. Stokes, 28, of Marshall, as the man who stole the wallet and fled from the scene in a van, said Columbia police Sgt. Ken Hammond. Police took Stokes into custody along with his girlfriend, Brie M. Anger, 30, of Columbia. Investigators questioned them about the Monday robbery of the Stoney Creek Inn, a stealing investigation from the Baymont Inn and numerous forgeries, Hammond said.
Hammond said both suspects made “numerous incriminating statements in regards to their involvement” in the crimes that occurred throughout Columbia.
During the Stoney Creek Inn robbery, the clerk reported a man jumped over the counter and grabbed money from the cash register. She tried to stop him, but he pushed her away and fled on foot.
Stokes was arrested on suspicion of second degree robbery, stealing, third degree assault, resisting arrest and two counts of fraudulent use of a credit device. Anger was arrested on suspicion of two counts of forgery and one count of stealing.
Anger was released on a $18,000 bond Wednesday night. Stokes was being held Thursday in Boone County Jail on a $18,500 bond.
