Mom took pride in being a homemaker
COLUMBIA — Mildred Marie Korte of Columbia was most proud of being a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, said her daughter, Judith Franken of Columbia. Her pies, angel food cake and oyster stuffing were favorites with her family.
She was also a lifelong Cardinals baseball fan — “big time,” Franken said. And she became an MU fan when she moved to Columbia.
Mrs. Korte died Thursday, July 17, 2008. She was 94.
She was born Aug. 15, 1913, at her family’s farm near New Frankfort to Oscar and Alleida (Noll) Thierfelder.
The family moved to Slater when she was about 10. She graduated from Slater High School.
She married Frederick W. Korte on Jan. 2, 1935. They lived in Glasgow for many years. They were married for 62 years.
Mrs. Korte is survived by her daughter; two sons, Fred Korte Jr. of Boonville and Charles Korte of Columbia; a brother, Charles Thierfelder; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Her husband and a sister, Vivian, died earlier.
