JC "Jim" Wight

JC “Jim” Wight of Houston, formerly a Columbia business owner, had a passion for life and a love of the outdoors.
“He didn’t like to sit behind a desk,” said Elva Doling, his sister. “He was a pilot. He loved golf, he loved to go fishing and he loved to hunt. He was very ambitious in taking new adventures.”
Mr. Wight died Tuesday July 8, 2008, at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was 63.
He was born Sept. 1, 1944 in Bentonville, Ark. to Claud Wight and Lois Pearl (Garret) Wight.
Mr. Wight was a graduate of Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
He was an accomplished radio personality in Washington, D.C.; New Orleans; Indianapolis; Tulsa, Okla.; Minneapolis and Chicago.
In Columbia, he owned and operated R.S.&W. Advertising Agency for 26 years. He also owned A & W Construction Company.
Mr. Wight also served as president of Cosmopolitan International, a not-for-profit civic service organization with an emphasis on efforts to prevent and find a cure for diabetes.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wight; one son, Jim “Kel” Wight of Austin, Texas; one brother, Walter Wight of Sun City, Fla.; two sisters, Elva Doling of Springdale, Ark. and Velma Clark of Fairland, Okla.; and niece Kimberly Hudson of Baton Rouge, La., who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held today 5 to 7 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home, 1401 Hudson Rd., Rogers, Ark.
Services, officiated by Pastor Carl Staten, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church, 1509 Little Flock Dr., Rogers, Ark. Burial will follow in Little Flock Cemetery.
